From our first habitat with build-your-own feeder and drip to our new website and blog...How far we've come!
It’s been 30 years since we were both humbled and inspired while assembling our first wild bird “habitat”.
Our personal passion for watching and feeding birds, and our love of the birds and the natural world has only grown deeper. Mike and I are still awed by their magic and beauty. This connection to the natural world of birds and wildlife we discovered in our own backyard motivated us to open The Backyard Naturalist in 1989.
My, how our world has changed. While our new technology has made communication and connection with each other much easier, it sure has accelerated life’s daily pace and created endless distractions. Our need to connect with the Earth and to be grounded by the awe Nature inspires is stronger than ever and possibly even more vital to our health and sanity.
We hope that through our shop, this website and our blog, we can share our knowledge and enthusiasm for this wonderful hobby that continues to be a life-changing experience.
