(But please share with everyone else!) Why? Because you&#8217;ve already nourished your backyard birds through <em>twelve months<\/em>\u2014four seasons filled with Life&#8217;s drama.<br><br><strong>During the past year, the food in your feeder has helped birds:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"byn-bird\">\n<ul>\n<li>Recover from flying thousands of miles to get to your house, then bulk up to fly thousands of miles back;<\/li>\n<li>Meet the physical demands of nesting and feeding a new family;<\/li>\n<li>Find nutrition when natural food has been scarce or covered with snow and ice;<\/li>\n<li>Survive extreme cold, by providing calorie-dense food to help offset the extra calories they expend just to stay warm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"the-backyard-birder-s-february\">The Backyard Birder&#8217;s February<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>February&#8217;s predicted to be a lot like January, so it&#8217;s important for us to keep being conscientious with habitat fundamentals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"orange respace wp-block-heading\" id=\"food\">Food<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maximize nutrition in your feeders.<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/thebackyardnaturalist.com\/wordpress\/portfolio-items\/wild-bird-seeds-suets-2\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Provide high calorie seeds and suet with essential protein, fat and carbohydrates.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"teal respace wp-block-heading\" id=\"water\">Water<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Keep bird baths from freezing over.<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/thebackyardnaturalist.com\/wordpress\/portfolio-items\/bird-bath-heaters-deicers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Get heated bird baths or add de-icers.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"green respace wp-block-heading\" id=\"shelter\">Shelter<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Have clean bird houses up now.<\/strong><br><a href=\"https:\/\/thebackyardnaturalist.com\/wordpress\/portfolio-items\/wild-bird-houses-2\/\">Bird houses offer sanctuary for songbirds during winter weather.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"your-2022-calendar-365-days-of-joy\">Your 2022 Calendar &amp;&nbsp;365 Days of Joy<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Your birds have probably <strong>helped you get through four seasons of Life&#8217;s drama, too!<\/strong> There&#8217;s also a lot of comfort&nbsp;in knowing they&#8217;ll continue rewarding your efforts\u2014each day of the coming year\u2014with their magical presence at your feeders, houses and baths.<br><br>Peeking just one or two calendar pages ahead,&nbsp;<strong>Spring Migration and Nesting Season will be underway before we know it<\/strong>.
