{"id":12461,"date":"2025-02-12T14:11:44","date_gmt":"2025-02-12T19:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thebackyardnaturalist.com\/wordpress\/?p=12461"},"modified":"2025-02-12T14:13:24","modified_gmt":"2025-02-12T19:13:24","slug":"the-great-backyard-bird-count-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thebackyardnaturalist.com\/wordpress\/the-great-backyard-bird-count-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"The Great Backyard Bird Count 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br>Take Fifteen Minutes and Help Make a World of Difference<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">During February 14th-17th, counting birds in your backyard will help create a real time, global snapshot of wild bird populations and their locations.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Great Backyard Bird Count<\/strong>&nbsp;(GBBC) is a four day, world-wide count that helps us learn more about wild birds and changes in their territories over time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Just three super-easy steps!<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Visit&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdcount.org\/participate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Birdcount.org&nbsp;<\/a>for all the details, but this is basically how it works:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Create your free&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdcount.org\/\">Great Backyard Bird Count<\/a>&nbsp;account at birdcount.org.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Count birds for at least 15 minutes<\/strong>&nbsp;during February 14th-17th. You can submit more checklists! Keep a checklist for each count you do in additional locations, different times or on other days during the GBBC.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Submit your results&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdcount.org\/ebird-on-computer\/\">on the GBBC website<\/a>&nbsp;or download the free&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.birdcount.org\/ebird-mobile-app\/\">eBird Mobile app<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Watch the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/ebird.org\/gbbc\/livesubs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">world map light up in real time<\/a>! There&#8217;s a glowing light added on&nbsp;the map as each checklist is submitted. Our real-time observations and those of other volunteers world-wide are&nbsp;<strong>helping researchers identify and track larger trends in a changing climate<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Citizen-science offers unlimited opportunities to make a difference<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The GBBC, launched in 1998, was the first online citizen-science project. Now, there are many more than we can list here!
