Count wild birds in your backyard and help create a real time, global snapshot of bird populations and their locations.<\/h4>\n

The Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC) is a four day, world-wide count<\/strong> that helps us learn more about wild birds and changes in their territories over time.<\/p>\n

Just three super-easy steps!<\/h2>\n

Visit Birdcount.org <\/a> for all the details, but this is basically how it works:<\/p>\n

    Create your free Great Backyard Bird Count<\/a> account at birdcount.org.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  2. \n

    Count birds for at least 15 minutes<\/strong> during February 16-19. You can submit more checklists! Keep a checklist for each count you do in additional locations, different times or on other days during the GBBC.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n

  3. \n

    Submit your results<\/a> on the GBBC website or download the free eBird Mobile app<\/a><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Backyard Birders Contribute Critical Data<\/h3>\n

    The GBBC is just one project for which EVERY backyard birder's observations make a difference. See Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology's<\/strong> Citizen Scientists<\/strong><\/a> to contribute to projects like  FeederWatch<\/a>, NestWatch<\/a> and HabitatNetwork<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    How Your Counting Helps Wild Birds<\/h3>\n

    Collected data helps scientists determine how birds are affected by habitat loss, pollution, disease, and climate change. Knowing where greatest needs are for species-specific conservation<\/strong> leads to targeted action to help birds' survival.<\/p>\n
