Recommended Seed Trays

Attaching a seed tray to your bird feeder will save money by catching spilled seed and also attract a wider variety of feeder birds. Seed trays act as a platform and offer the sure footing that ground-feeding birds like cardinals prefer. These birds will be more likely to linger at a feeder longer when they have a secure place to perch, affording great bird watching opportunities.

By catching spilled seed, seed trays also reduce waste from discarded, uneaten seed and prevent accumulation that could attract unwanted pests.

Droll Yankees Omni Seed Tray

The Backyard Naturalist recommends using a Seed Tray, like Droll Yankees Omni Seed Tray, to catch seed. Saves your seed, stops waste and prevents seed strewn on the ground. Also turns your tube feeder into a platform feeder that attracts additional species of birds, like ground feeders.

Fits Droll Yankees’ Classic, New Generation and Ring Pull bird feeders

The 10.5″ diameter tray attracts a wide variety of birds, including ground feeders like Cardinals, by turning your tube feeder into a platform feeder. (And a huge bonus for you—a seed tray also saves time and money by catching spilled seed.)

Made in USA with UV-stabilized polycarbonate that won’t yellow with age.

No tools needed to install it. Simply connect the Omni Seed Tray to the feeder base with the included threaded black plug. To pole-mount, attach a Threaded Pole Adapter (ADPT) to the Omni Seed Tray and insert the adapter stem into a 1″ diameter pole.

Droll Yankees® A-Series 7.5 in. A-6 Seed Tray

The Backyard Naturalist recommends the addition of a seed tray with the A-6f, and some other feeders. Here's the A-6.

Droll Yankees® A-Series 7.5 in. Seed Tray fits Droll Yankees’ Classic, New Generation, Ring Pull, and Bird Lovers feeders

Fits Droll Yankees’ Classic, New Generation, Ring Pull, and Bird Lovers feeders

The 7.5 in. A-6 Seed Tray saves spilled seed, while also helping to attract a larger variety of birds. Adding a seed tray turns your tubular bird feeder into a platform feeder that will attract more species, like ground-feeding birds.

No tools needed – connect the A-6 Seed Tray to the feeder base with the included threaded black plug
UV-stabilized polycarbonate to protect against the sun’s damaging rays.

To add another feeder beneath, replace the threaded black plug with a Suet Link or Wing Nut. To pole-mount, attach a Pole Adapter to the A-6 Seed Tray and insert the adapter stem into a 1″ diameter pole.
