All wild bird seeds and suets are not created equal!
The Backyard Naturalist stocks a full line of the freshest, premium wild bird seeds and suets at competitive prices. This means our seed is always harvested from the most recent growing season and we insist on pesticide-free and non-GMO sources, too. Because our wild birds must maximize their nutrition at every feeding opportunity, they need, and deserve, the highest quality food we can offer them! (See ‘Why Quality Seed and Clean Feeders Matter’ under Resources.)
It’s very simple. Black Oil Sunflower is the preferred food of all seed eating songbirds! It has the highest oil content and is tasty, too!

Note: We do not stock any suets containing hot pepper, nor do we recommend the use of hot pepper as a squirrel deterrent. When wildlife rehab specialists started seeing an increase in eye injuries due to the inflammatory nature of hot pepper, we decided to no longer recommend or sell hot pepper seeds and suets. Frankly, they add cost to the food! Your money is better invested — and more humanely spent — on physical deterrents like baffles and squirrel-proof feeders.
